Shigeki was born in 1979 in the Osaka prefecture of Japan, and studied Interior Design at the Osaka Sogo College of Design. After graduating in 2000, he worked under Nobuyuki Tachibana, a Japanese iron sculptor.

After moving to Germany in 2006 he trained as a carpenter and has focused on woodwork. His original brand S.YAMAMOTO was launched in Berlin in 2010 with a concept of "high humour design". This brings a "sense of fun into daily life while maintaining his love of quality". He tries to keep a spiritual richness in his work in the face of today's industrialised mass production.
